The Mercer redefines modern style. In fact, the new $50 million 113-unit residential project is so cool that it won an award from the American Institute of Architects before it ever broke ground. The five-acre condominium complex is located at Tropicana Avenue and Grand Canyon Drive in the Southwest Valley. Designated by architects assemblageStudio and Epstein, the edgy Vegas firm responsible for the Mormon Fort Visitors Center, the 168,000-square-foot project will consist of four Bauhaus-inspired buildings with clean lines, smooth facades and broad expanses of glass. The multi-level whitewashed structures offer homes from 800 square feet to 2,370 square feet in size, with prices ranging from $229,000 to 699,000. Standard features include hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, pre-wired security systems and underground parking. Plans additionally call for 12,000 square feet of retail shops, including a café and gourmet deli. The Mercer's wood-and-stucco buildings are thoughtfully arranged to create 32,000 square feet worth of shaded courtyards, with amenities consisting of gym, yoga, and spa rooms, as well as clubhouse, pool and pavilion. Developed by locally based Modern Living Holdings LLC and JDL Corp. of Chicago, there are three distinct outdoor areas accented by lively landscaping and vibrant desert colors. The Mercer is expected to break ground in the spring and finish by mid-2008.
